Blackbuck Antelope hunts are some of the most unique exotics to hunt of all the exotics due to their distinct facial coloration which develop very white facial markings around the eyes and distinct black over the rest of the head. Their spiral black horns can make four-plus curls around. The curls are very unique, making it one of the smallest of the spiral-horned antelope species. Blackbuck Antelope was first introduced to Texas in the early 1900s from India and have thrived in the Texas Hill Country ever since.

Known as one of the first exotic deer in Texas, along with the Axis Deer, they have become the most popular of all Exotic Deer Hunts in Texas. Their meat is highly sought after, because of its high prized taste and lean fat quality. Shonto Ranch maintains a large breeding population of Blackbuck Antelope on the ranch and there is always a great selection of large trophy males to choose from. It’s not uncommon to see a hundred or more Blackbuck in a day’s drive on the ranch. The Blackbucks are usually seen in groups of 10 to 40 and there is one dominant male watching over his harem of Blackbuck does.
