Herds of Axis Deer and Blackbuck Antelope roam free through the hills and grass pastures and creates a feeling of being in Africa.

Our hunting guest can enjoy down time between their hunts at the Lake side Party Pavilion and Cantina enjoy the sound of the running water fall in the cocktail pool and the old Hank Williams playing in the background enjoying eating and stoking the fires in our two outdoor rock fireplaces. The pavilion is the perfect place to entertain your guest and is the place to be and you won't want to leave.

Fishing is amazing as well and the lake is the ranches own swimming hole in the summer months. Beautifully landscaped grounds with special architectural moon lights makes Shonto Ranch Pavilion and Cantina special beyond words.

Texas Deer Hunting

Shonto Ranch has many species of deer from all over the world, our hunting guests can enjoy Gemsbok Oryx hunting, Waterbuck hunting, Axis deer hunting, Blackbuck Hunts, Sika deer hunts, Fallow deer hunts, and Mouflon Sheep hunts, Texas Dall Sheep Hunting, Corsican Sheep hunting, Catalina Goat hunts, We also have Sitatunga, Barasingha and Zebras and Rheas.

The ranch practices good management practices by hunting only mature trophy Whitetail and Exotic Deer and feeding the best nutritional feed. Offering the best genetics and many food plots to give our deer the best opportunity to grow big racks. The deer on the ranch are free ranging deer that are wild and do not have ear tags or tattoos like most pen raised ranches. Most days our hunters will see in excess of 100 whitetails bucks and 100-200 exotic deer in one day. You will think you are on the African savannah after your first morning driving.

Shonto Ranches Whitetail Hunting season starts September 27, 2014 and goes all the way to February 28, 2015. Because of this special permit from the State of Texas, it allows us to start 1 month earlier and end 2 months later to achieve our management goals. The great thing to a deer hunter is you never have to use your tags on your hunting license. We the land owner use our special issued Managed Land Deer (MLD) tags, preserving your tags.

Texas Fishing

Shonto Ranches massive water ways are the headwaters of the Guadalupe River and are so expansive a fisherman can not fish the whole ranch in one day. No other ranch in the Texas Hill Country can boast this much fishable water and still minutes to Kerrville Texas. and a short 1 hour from San Antonio, Texas.

We specialize in Largemouth Bass fishing year round and Rainbow Trout fishing in the fall and spring. WE ARE ONE OF THE ONLY Texas fishing ranches in the state to stock Rainbow Trout up to the 10 pound mark. You can actually fish Rainbow Trout in Texas with your fly rod or any conventional spinning rod.

Many Texas fishing related state records have been produced from our prime fishing streams and lakes. Our lakes and streams are generally very clear and blue colored and allow our fishing guest to sight cast and present or place that perfect fly with in striking distance of that monster Rainbow Trout or Largemouth Bass.

We allow our fishing guest to bring Canoes, Kayaks and float tubes but they are not needed. Most fishing is done from well groomed banks and most have very good Fly fishing areas for your back cast with out obstructions. Fishing can also be done with spin cast rods and produces good results.

Fishing is complimentary to our hunting guests.

Camera Safaris

Non hunting and fishing guests can still enjoy the scenery the ranch has to offer by taking a camera safari through Shonto Ranch, stopping at various lakes and ridge-lines for picture-taking opportunities. We have private housing for our exclusive hunting guests and can accommodate up to 15 people, if your group is over 15 we can accommodate more of your guest 8 minutes away in downtown Kerrville.

Our Lakeside Party Pavilion is a great place to hang out after the evening hunt and warm up around the fire, grill a steak, tell stories and listen to “Old Hank Williams” on the stereo. It’s that perfect place to end the day.
